video preview

This video covers different ways to earn LifeMiles, including credit card transfers, the benefits of a LifeMiles membership, and leveraging the Star Alliance network for 1,300+ destinations. I also discuss award pricing, competitive rates, transfer bonuses, and tips on finding award availability and maximizing your points!

Together with:

15% Capital One to LifeMiles Transfer Bonus Ending on 9/30/2023!

You have until Saturday (9/30/2023) to transfer your Capital One Miles to LifeMiles and take advantage of the 15% transfer bonus!

By transferring 39,000 Capital One Miles to LifeMiles, you'll have enough LifeMiles points to fly in business class from Los Angeles to Bogota.

If you prefer to fly to Europe, with 51,000 Capital One Miles, you can fly one-way in business class from New York (JFK) to Vienna!

These are just two examples, but there are plenty of other good redemption opportunities. Avianca LifeMiles is a Star Alliance partner, which means you can book flights on partner airlines such as United, Lufthansa, ANA, Asiana, and more! With over 1,300 destinations available, make sure to transfer your points while the transfer bonus is still active to maximize your Capital One Miles!

Top 5 Tips for South Korea

Korea is foreigner-friendly, but it can still be challenging at the same time. Here are my top 5 tips:

  1. Make sure you have cash.
A lot of places accept foreign credit cards now more than when we visited in 2019, but transit cards can only be loaded using cash. Many street vendors also only accept cash. So cash is a must!
  2. Not all ATMs accept international ATM cards
A lot of ATMs will say they accept foreign cards but will give you an error and not give you any cash. I had the most luck using ATMs from Woori Banks, which you can find throughout South Korea.
  3. Use Naver or Kakao Maps for navigation
Google Maps is not used in South Korea, so you have to use Naver or Kakao maps. I prefer Naver maps because it gives you public transit directions in the latin alphabet, which makes it easier to figure out which train stop to get on and off. Kakao maps give you directions in Korean characters (Hangul), which might be more challenging to use.
  4. Use Kakao T to hail a taxi
Taxis in South Korea are affordable but typically not foreigner-friendly. The taxi drivers usually don’t speak any English, and if you show them a location using Naver or Kakao in Latin letters, they usually won’t understand. The Kakao T app works like Uber: you can input your destination in the app, and the driver will know where to go.
  5. Consider getting a Sim Card with a Korean phone number

This is not necessary, but it can make some things easier. There are certain things that require a Korean phone number, like making restaurant reservations or even ordering food at a food court kiosk. We ran into this issue at a handful of places. You can get Korean Sim cards when you land at the airport.

Hope these tips help! I'll be catching up on my Korea content in the coming weeks so keep a lookout for those videos!
